For those who don't already know me and are reading this, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints... Also known as Mormons. Mormons is a nickname people gave us because next to the bible (not instead of) we also believe in scriptural book that is called the Book of Mormon. I'm not going much further into what we believe but in our church the members are given a calling, a responsibility. Wether this is being the bishop of the Ward or teaching all the little ones. I just want to point out that nobody that has a calling within the ward or stake gets paid for his/her calling, Except for in blessings from our Heavenly Father.
So on Saturday evening I received a text message from a counsellor of the bishop in my new ward with the question if I was going to be in church on Sunday (I have been traveling a little and I hate to admit it but also just sleeping in on Sunday mornings occasionally), And if so, If he could talk with me between classes.
So on Sunday I met with him and he asked me if I wanted to accept the calling as first counsellor of the primary President (this is someone who presides over all the children in the ward). Which I gladly accepted even though I haven't had a calling like this ever. I am super excited but also very nervous. Since this is all new to me and since my president has also just been called and hasn't had a calling in primary for over 20 years, we are going to fall and learn together and I decided to share our experiences through a blog.
I am originally from the Netherlands, but lived in England a few times (as an au-pair 10 years ago, as a full-time missionary for the church 5,5-4 years ago) I since lived in Switzerland for a short while and in Ireland for almost a year (As au-pair) in between I lived with my parents in the Netherlands and now I am back in England (as au-pair).
I have 2 older brothers and a brother in law and 1 younger sister and 1 sister in law. 1 brother is married and has 1 son and 1 daughter of his own. I still have my Mother but my Father passed away earlier this year.
I am excited to share my experiences with you all.
